Willem Corneliszoon Schouten

William Cornelius Schouten (ca. 1580-1625) was a Dutch explorer and navigator. In 1616 he discovered a new route to the Pacific via Cape Horn. This expedition, 1615-1617 was led by Jacob Le Maire with Willem Schouten as captain on board the vessels Eendracht and Hoorn. It was the third circumnavigation of the globe after Magellan and was the first to round Cape Horn from the east.
